About the Instructor

Angie Collins, 2nd Grade

I am a veteran teacher with over 35 years of experience.  Eight years ago, I retired from the Republic School District, where I taught 1st grade for 14 years.  Prior to my time with Republic, I taught 2nd and 3rd grade in Monett, Mo.

After retiring, I had no intention of leaving the profession I loved.  So I embarked on a new adventure and joined the Summit faculty.  I am now beginning my eighth year.  My goal for my students is to create lifelong learners who problem solve, think critically and share a love of learning, not only with myself, but classmates as well.  I believe in educating the ‘whole” child, meeting my students’ needs academically, socially and emotionally.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University, as well as my Reading Certification through Lindenwood University.  My in-depth trainings through professional development have allowed me to grow and improve as an educator.  Some of these trainings include Kagan Cooperative Learning, Guided Reading, Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop and Math Addvantage.  My professional goal is quite simple, to continually grow and improve as an educator, thus helping my students to be the best they can be.

In my free time, I love to work in my yard, spend time with my adult sons, Danny (35) and Ryan (31), and my amazing daughter-in-law, Cristina, whenever possible.  They all live in the Bentonville area, so I make many visits to Arkansas!  Most of all, I love being with my  grandson, Luca, born March 22, 2021.  He’s the joy of my life!  In September I will have another joy!  I have a granddaughter due in September.
