Six years of school has proven The Summit’s program successful. Each year, teachers are finding students excelling in math, reading, science, critical thinking, problem-solving, and technology integration. Students are expected to take responsibility for their learning. Beginning in Pre-Kindergarten and building throughout the early childhood curriculum, students are encouraged to research topics in books, investigating through age-appropriate Web sites, and making connections through discussions and literacy groups. Public speaking is incorporated into daily classroom activities. Students lead discussions, share what they have learned with the class, and read personal work aloud to the group. Throughout the Lower School program, students learn about responsibility and community, including an understanding of the different types of communities and the individual’s role within them. The integrated curriculum allows students to make applications across content areas and gathering personal conclusions. By Middle School, students create original research and present to peers and adult audiences. Students take their learning outside the classroom to community events and competitions. Middle School students participate in job shadow experiences and college visits to begin their exploration of post-secondary pursuits. In High School, students realize their roles in the adult community. They actively contribute to a professional setting in weekly internships, as well as attend college-level courses, often for credit towards a degree.
