Internal & External Assessing at The Summit Prep

The Summit Prep uses a variety of internal and external assessments. Internal assessments may include student portfolios, teacher observations, individual and class projects, presentations, and subject area tests. A benefit of continual communication between teachers, students, and parents is the constant updates regarding your student’s progress.

External assessments may include:

Pre K – 2nd grade classes are performing at and/or above age-based norms in all literacy and mathematics concepts.



ERB CTPEach Spring students in grades 3-8 participate in ERB’s Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP). This assessment is commonly used in Suburban Public and Independent Schools nationally and internationally. The CTP helps compare content specific, curriculum-based performance to the more conceptual knowledge base found in reasoning tests. 

82% of Summit students scored in the top quadrant (Grades 3-8th).

Duke TipBased on their recent ERB scores, students may qualify for Duke University’s Talent Identification Program. Students must score in the 95th percentile on one or more Duke TIP test areas to qualify.  

Here are the 2014 results:

  • Grades 3-5: 20/28 qualified
  • Grade 6: 10/16 qualified
