- From the Ozarks Sports Zone: SUMMIT PREP/NEW COVENANT ACADEMY RELAY BREAKS RECORD: With only six active swimmers, Summit Prep/New Covenant Academy place third overall. The highlight for Summit Prep/NCA was beating Glendale in the 200-yard freestyle relay while breaking the Lady Falcons’ meet and pool records in that event with a time of 1:41:02.“The girls went out and decided that they were the number one seed going in after preliminary races,” head coach Alex Miller said. “They decided they wanted to get faster and flat out weren’t going to get beat, and that’s exactly what they went out and did.”Four SP/NCA swimmers will also be attending the state meet next Saturday. Junior Krista Shimizu qualified in diving; Molly Moore had state cuts in both the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke events, which she placed first in at SWMO; Claire McCune made the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle state cuts; and her sister, Katie, made the 50-yard freestyle state cut.Last year, the McCune twins and Claire Workman, who were all freshmen, competed for the state championship for the first time.“They swam well, though it was more of a learning experience,” Miller said. “My plan for this year is to continue to taper, like they’ve been doing, and progressively get less and less strenuous into their peaking. The goal is to have the girls get their adrenaline up and just get out there and go race.”
