La Vida Silvestre - Wildlife

Hay tres monos y muchos animales en la foto

There are three monkeys and many animals in the photo

This Month in Spanish

¡Vamos Salvaje! – That's right!  We’re going WILD with our on-going study of focus being la vida silvestrewildlife and birds.  Vocabulary will include subject-nouns and adjectives for different types of animals, added to our September nature study, to freely converse about them and their surroundings.

El elefante se divierte y está cruzando sus piernas y pies.

The elephant amuses itself and is crossing its legs and feet.

Satisfaction In Progress:  We'll continue building our unscripted conversational skills by expanding on verb vocabulary while learning a pair of new conjugation patterns.  The Present Progressive is the gerund equivalent of the English ing-ending, which describes actions in progress.  The Reflexive is used when the object performing the action is also receiving something in return.

Donde Se Habla Español –  As part of our Message Boards collective learning, students have selected un Parque Nacional within each of their assigned countries and are summarizing geographical and natural highlights.  Next we'll compile information on birds and wildlife, and finish the Trimester with an environmental and cultural project using the Featured Destination link below.

El mapache perezoso está soñando en su aula.

The lazy raccoon is daydreaming in its cage.

¿Qué aprendieron? – What has everyone learned?  We'll find out when we spend the day at el parque zoológico and use a variety of activities to demonstrate conversational skills while observing Living Diorama Boxes.

South America - in Springfield, Missouri

That last time I paid a visit to the Dickerson Park Zoo, none of our Summit students were even thought about, and parents had probably yet to even meet!  After many years, and loving to visit zoos around the world, I must admit – I was more than impressed with how much things have changed and grown!

For anyone that hasn't made a visit within this last year, the zoo also now features bilingual information for all birds and animals; a great opportunity for "students of all ages" to begin learning while sharing the excitement with the growing number of area Hispanic patrons.

And just so you know:  If anyone is interested in having a bilingual zoo tour guide, please feel free to contact me.  We've got 21 capable middle school students!

Planes, trains, and automobiles are often the least of what's used by people on the go...
