Springfield now joins St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, and Joplin as Missouri cities with an accredited independent school. The Summit Preparatory School received notification this week that it was approved for full accreditation from the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), a regional affiliate of The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). With this approval, The Summit also receives full accreditation with AdvancEd, a North Central Association affiliate.

Accreditation is a voluntary assessment of the educational program and shows a commitment to excellence and continual self-analysis. The Summit, in its seventh academic year, is one of the youngest schools to reach this designation with ISACS; many schools do not even begin the process until they have operated for 5–10 years.

ISACS accreditation is a lengthy process, involving all members of the school community as well as evaluation by an outside panel of school experts. The Summit submitted its self study report in January of 2012, hosted the ISACS visiting team (representing eight different independent schools in the midwest) in March of 2012, and received notification of accreditation approval Thursday, April 19. According to ISACS visiting team chair, Jeff Stroebel, Head of Da Vinci Academy in Illinois, “The Summit is not a good school, it’s an extraordinary school.” Kathy Reynolds, Head of School, says “It is a great honor to receive confirmation from ISACS what we have known at The Summit all along: a supportive and stimulating environment produces well-rounded, inquisitive, and passionate lifelong learners in students, parents, teachers, and trustees.”

There’s no school on April 30, but students are invited to Eagles Nest from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit the 8th grade class trip.

We’ve moved this date from the original date published in the calendar released last school year, due to scheduling conflicts at the concert venue.

Grandparents or Special Friends will be welcome to attend school with their students during the day from 8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Upon written parent request, grandparents/friends will be welcome to take students out to lunch at 11:00 a.m., but students must return by 1:00 p.m.

The Academic Fair will be on display in the lunch room at The Summit campus from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Then, the Spring Concert will be held at Clara Thompson Hall at 6:30 p.m.

This will be a very fun celebration of our students for the whole family to enjoy; please make plans to join us!
