Dear Pre-Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to The Summit Preparatory School! We are looking forward to the first day of school Wednesday, August 17 and spending this year with your child. Under the theme ‘All About Me’, pre-k students will be exploring science and social studies concepts, building language and communication skills, and using mathematical thinking, all while working cooperatively with peers and teachers. Of course, we’ll read lots of great books, create stories, play on the playground, use computers, and so much more! Each day goes by quickly because we’re so busy at The Summit.
Mrs. Alexander is entering her 17th year of teaching, and is happy to be returning to the pre-kindergarten setting. She has taught at The Summit since it opened in 2005. School and her family are two of Mrs. Alexander’s favorite things. She and her husband have two children, a daughter who will be a freshman at Boston University this year and a son who is a junior in high school and plays AAA hockey. Their family likes to spend time traveling, cooking, and going to lots of hockey games.
This is Mrs. Cowart’s second year teaching at The Summit. She has previously taught pre-kindergarten and brings her physical fitness and Spanish knowledge to our classroom. Mrs. Cowart spends her free time jogging, biking, and spending time on the water. She and her husband have a dog, Remy.
To aide in a smooth school transition, we will be conferencing with parents before the first day of school. This time will allow us to meet, visit about your child, and share pertinent information to help make the school experience a successful one for your child. These conferences will be held at school Tuesday, August 9, through Friday, August 12. Specific times are listed below. Please email us to set up a time that works best with your schedule. A parent questionnaire is included in this email to fill out and bring to the conference. Additionally, we will be attending the Pre-Kindergarten Play Date at The Summit, Thursday morning, August 11, at 9:00. This event is for the students and parents to meet other Pre-Kindergarten families and spend some time at school before the first day of class.
The first day of school will be here soon! You may want to make a countdown sheet or chain to count the days until school. It’s also a good idea for students to begin to go to bed a little earlier and start to get back into your morning and evening school routine. You may want to share some books about the first day of school. We’d recommend: Miss Mingo and the First Day of School, by Jamie Harper, Vera’s First Day of School by Vera Rosenberry, or Timothy Goes to School by Rosemary Wells.
We look forward to receiving your email to set up a conference time and meeting your family in the coming days. Please review the links below for the Pre-K supply list and parent questionnaire.
