It has been a busy start to the school year.  Students have been reading individually and with partners, selecting just right books.  They have worked with sight words, creating sentences and finding word families. They enjoyed visiting www.starfall.com to play various literacy related games.

Through read aloud, students were introduced to the Mercy Watson series by Kate DiCamillo. They created their first journal entries commenting on the book Mercy Watson to the Rescue.

Working with math manipulatives is a classroom favorite.  Using geobards and Magna-Tiles, students began their study of the first trimester topic, geometry. They also enjoyed playing Top-It, a math card game that builds number sense.

Students did a great job presenting their summer projects to the class and look forward to upcoming mapping activities.  Weekly spelling lists as well as Special Person of the Week will begin the week of August 29th.  Remember to check the Friday folder for Scholastic catalogs.  All orders will be completed online this year.
