Recycling Paper

Today, students worked in pairs to read their first procedural text, How to Make Paper.   Utilizing the reading strategy of visualizing to understand, students learned how to sequence a process.   Through visualization, students are encouraged to “make a movie in their mind” as they read.  First graders were asked to use what they already know about the topic to help make pictures in their mind.   Working on comprehension skills, students sequenced the events in the book using words such as first, second, next, then, and last.  Afterward, using paper from our classroom recycling bins, we followed the steps to make our very own paper!
