Author Paul Goble strives to preserve Native American culture, specifically the mythology of the Plains Indians, through his books. Working to make all aspects of his writing accurate, he offers his readers a glimpse into the life the Plains Indians during the time of the buffalo. Through his books, first graders have been introduced to myths or legends. Integrating our studies, Mr. Goble’s books often include elements of weather too. Beginning with Storm Maker’s Teepee, students learned the importance of shelter on the plains as tribes followed the buffalo. After reading The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, first graders tried their hand at storytelling by using hand gestures and facial expressions to make the story come alive. Paul Goble serves as a mentor author, as students will begin writing their very own myth or legend.
