Digraphs

What are digraphs, and how are they different from blends?  These were the questions posed as we began brainstorming words for this week’s spelling list.  First graders discovered that like blends digraphs are formed by two consonants.  They differ as a digraph makes one sound rather than two. In the coming weeks, we will focus on the following beginning digraphs: ch, sh, th, wh, ph, qu.
