Working in pairs, first graders have read numerous weather related books. In Stormy Weather, they practiced phonetic skills by hunting for blends throughout the book.  Words found included clouds, blocked, storm, grew, drive, slowly, strong, blow, flashed, scared, cracked, and many more!  After reading Earth’s Water, students completed a comprehension check to demonstrate their understanding.  Some questions asked required first graders to determine where water can be found, identify properties of water as a solid, liquid, or gas, and explain the importance of water.  Students also reviewed nouns, looking for examples of people, places, or things throughout the book.
