Rain Forest

This morning students were introduced to the second world biome we will study, the rain forest, through  If I Ran the Rain Forest from The Cat in the Hat’s Learning LIbrary. Throughout the book students were introduced to key terms relating to the rain forest including: ecosystem, equator, epiphyte, hue, nectar, camouflage, and pollen.  In addition to discovering plants and animals of the rain forest, students will identify the levels as follows: emergent layer, canopy, understory, shrub layer, and forest floor.  Tying into this topic, we watched a BrainPop Jr. video on the rain forest, and we also began a new read aloud today from Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House Series, Afternoon on the Amazon.
