Linear Measures

First graders are busy exploring linear units of measurement.  Selecting the appropriate tool, students continue to measure objects throughout the classroom.  We are determining when to use inches, feet, or yards, as well as how to use various rulers and yardsticks.   In addition to finding accurate measurements, students are applying estimation skills by making a good guess about how long, wide, or high an object is and then comparing that with the actual measurement.  Next week we will work further with metric linear measurement.
