The Sun

Students are once again exploring nonfiction books to learn about the sun.  Partnering with second grade, vocabulary readers introduced new terminology including: billion, distance, energy, gas, and orbit.  During reading centers, students have had the opportunity to read self selected books about the sun.  We even created a tissue paper sun for our ongoing solar system mural.  Students enjoyed painting the black background working together on the patio last week.

Ask your first grader some of the following questions to spark conversations about our learning at home.  What is the sun?  What is the sun made of?  What are three things the sun does for us? How would you describe the sun?
