The Earth

Moving on from the sun, frist graders are learning about the Earth.  Once again, as we read in small groups, new science vocabulary words were introduced. These included the terms  atmosphere, canyon, inhabit, lava, ray, revolve, and rotate.  After reading, comprehension strategies of identifying fact and opinion were reinforced, and students determined if statements about the Earth were fact or opinion.  This task proved to be challenging, so we will complete follow up activities in which students construct their own fact and opinion statements and evaluate their classmates.
