Summarizing

This week, first graders began using the reading strategy of summarizing to understand a text.  We discussed how a summary is one way to remember information in a book.  Utilizing this reading strategy is a nice extension of learning about the 5 w’s as a summary usually tells, who, what, when, where, and why.  We practiced this skill using The 100th Day Project, which we partner read on the 100th day of school.
