Magic E

This week we will increase the number of spelling words on our weekly lists as students will select 15 words rather than ten.  While most students have been working with short vowel sounds in spelling and phonics, we will be working with long vowel sounds.  Adding “magic e” or “silent e” to the end of a one syllable word changes the short vowel to a long vowel and the vowel “says its name.”  Working with magic e this week, students will review each of the following concepts: short vowel sounds, long vowel sounds, consonant blends, and consonant digraphs. Examples of this rule are listed below.
