This week we will begin working on consonant blends. A blend is made up of two consonants in which each sound is heard, but they are blended together. Today, students brainstormed a list of words that begin with one of the following l-blends: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl. Each child then selected ten words for his or her weekly spelling list. We will complete several word work activities this week using l-blends including sorting by the type of l-blend, reading books focusing on l-blends, reading poems with l-blends, and searching for l-blend words.
