How To

First grade students have begun working on a How To writing piece.  Over the past two weeks, they have partner read How to Make Paper, made their own recycled paper, and practiced the reading comprehension skill of sequencing by drawing and labeling steps in a sequence.  In beginning this writing project, we are once again following each of the steps in the writing process.  Students brainstormed ideas in their journal, determining things they are experts at doing.  Using graphic organizers, they are sequencing each of the steps in the process.  Next week, we will complete individual sequencing activities in both listening and reading activities.  Tying math into our learning, we will be working with ordinal numbers and position words in addition to moving forward with geometry concepts.
