Moving on from ordinal numbers, first grade students continue to build their number sense, as we are learning about number bonds. A number bond is a visual representation of the relationship between a number and the parts that combine to make that number. Examining part-whole relationship through number bonds, helps students to better understand the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction.
