Science Day

Last Friday, first and second grade students spent the morning engaging in science related projects.  Incorporating science through garden arts, Ms. Grace led students in harvesting heirloom tomato seeds.  She even prepared fried green tomatoes and shared her homemade tomato relish.  Learning about the scientific method, students discovered what materials we would need to make our own mini-compost tubes. Students applied estimation and measurement skills as they filled their compost tubes with soil, organic material collected from the field, and shredded newspaper.  Once the tube was filled, students covered the top with black construction paper.  We will be checking our compost tubes, making careful observations, periodically over the next few weeks. It was messy, exciting, and most of all, fun!
