Jr. Achievement

Today, furthering our study of economics, first and second graders enjoyed their third Jr. Achievement session. In a previous session, working in teams, students learned about production groups, simulating production for a doughnut shop.  They compared unit and assembly-line production methods as they made their doughnuts, learning that different strategies are used to produce different products.  Today, we expanded our learning, as students role-played, taking on various roles and responsibilities within the community.  We learned about the economic role government plays by identifying services provided by the government.  In addition to recognizing government jobs in the community, students also discussed tax collection and why taxes are necessary.
