Weather

Today, first grade students partner read a science vocabulary book, Weather!  Prior to reading, we reviewed features of nonfiction texts including a table of contents, glossary, headings, photographs, captions, labels, diagrams, and bold face words.  Students completed corresponding reading comprehension activities that involved drawing a picture of today’s weather, recording the temperature on a thermometer, describing today’s weather, and determining cause and effect relationships.

First graders are also participating in the KY3 weather forecasting contest.  This week we selected the team name, The Summit Tornadoes. Over the next three weeks, we will predict and submit the high and low temperature for the day. We will also predict what kind of precipitation, if any, we will have.
