First grade students know that c and k can make the /k/ sound when they are separate and when they are together. This week’s spelling pattern will focus on final -ck, as they don’t appear together at the beginning of a word. We will learn that when you hear the /k/ sound after a short vowel in a one-syllable word, it is usually spelled with -ck.
