Nancy Carlson

Introducing our first author study of the year and generating enthusiasm for first grade, last week, we read First Grade Here I Come by Nancy Carlson.  Nancy, who writes and illustrates her own books, teaches children to feel good about themselves and others.  In the coming weeks, as we continue to share her books, we will evaluate themes, characters, and writing style.  We will focus heavily on making connections between our own experiences, our author, and her characters.  Today, after reading and discussing I Like Me, first grade students completed a written response making a text to self connection by determining what is special about them and what they like best about themselves.
