Author Study

Today, we began our first author study of the year. First grade students enjoyed the shared read aloud First Grade, Here I Come! by Nancy Carlson.  As we read the story, we discussed ways first grade is different from Kindergarten.  Then, focusing on the story element of character, first graders determined whether or not given statements were true for each character.  Carlson’s books are enjoyed by children as she uses simple text, has colorful illustrations, and sends a positive message while addressing childhood topics.  We look forward to sharing many more of her books books!
