The Lorax

First graders have launched into first trimester science and social studies topics.  Today, as an introduction, we enjoyed sharing in the Dr. Seuss favorite, The Lorax.  Through the book, we began learning about  natural resources, sources and effects of pollution, and our individual roles in caring for our planet.  Socials studies topics were intricately woven into the story as and we introduced key concepts and vocabulary including goods, services, needs, and wants.  Students especially enjoyed creating their own Truffula Tree forest.  Tomorrow, in a corresponding writing project, we will begin learning the steps of the writing process.
