Care to Learn

Kids just want to be kids, but that is difficult for students living in poverty.  You can make a difference in the life of a child.  We are asking The Summit students to bring socks and underwear to be distributed by Care to Learn to students living in poverty in Springfield.  Let’s help kids just be kids!  Last year we collected 427 bags for Care to Learn.  The second grade class collected the most. Let’s see if we can beat that this year! Which class will have the most?

Parents, this can be a great learning opportunity for your students.  One idea is to give them cash and let them shop with you.  Students can figure out how many sock and underwear sets they can buy for a child based on the money they have.  Let them figure out how best to spend their money to benefit a child who is currently going without. Some students may decide to spend their money on character sets, for example, while another may choose generic and be able to purchase more. Please purchase sets that are the size your child would wear.  That will allow us to sort sizes and deliver them to appropriate schools.  Supplies can be placed in the boxes in the lobby and are due by September 18.
