Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

This week’s STEM challenge proved to be an exciting one.  Setting the scene through literature,  we read aloud Steven Guarnaccia’s architectural version of The Three Little Pigs.   From there, students were given the challenge of constructing a house for a fourth little pig.  First graders brainstormed materials, or goods, needed to create a structurally sound house.  Working in our STEM teams, with a designated recorder, speaker, and materials manager, students set out to create a blueprints of their designs.  Once designs were completed, students began gathering materials and constructing their houses.  This morning, after numerous structural revisions, the Big Bad Wolf (hairdryer) arrived, attempting to huff and puff to blow down our houses.
