Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

This week we began discussing the three R’s: reduce, reuse, and recycle.  In preparation for our trip to the landfill and the recycling center, students enjoyed viewing a BrainPop Jr. video, listening to reading alouds, and partner reading books about garbage and recycling.  Learning the importance of conserving our natural resources, students are gaining an appreciation for how our actions can affect the environment and our entire planet.  Next week we will begin several projects relating to the three R’s.

Visiting the recycling center, we learned how we can each do our own part to protect the environment.

Touring the recycling center, students learned what items can be recycled, how  they should be sorted,  how long it takes them to decompose, and what our recyclables are used to make including mulch, kitty litter, decking, and insulation.
