The Little Red Hen

Last week, students began preparing for an upcoming fictional writing activity.  Continuing with the comprehension strategy of sequencing and our procedural “How to Writing,” first grade students listened to the well known children’s story, The Little Red Hen.  After discussing story elements of character, setting, and plot, students partner read a variation of the story, The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza.  Following slightly modified steps, students worked together to make their own pizzas.  This week, we’ll share additional altered versions of The Little Red Hen, making comparisons and deepening our understanding of story elements.  Students can look forward to crafting their own versions of the story.
