Digraph -ng

This week our spelling and word work focus has been digraph -ng.  After brainstorming and selecting words, students have practiced a variety of centers.  They have typed their words, identified and sorted word families (-ang, -ing, -ong, -ung) and sorted -ng words from -nk words.

Tomorrow, we will connect our study of -ng words to two grammatical concepts, suffixes and tenses.  We’ll highlight examples of -ng as a final digraph vs. -ng as a part of suffix -ing.  We’ll explore what suffix -ing means, “it is happening right now.”  This will set us up for next week as we learn about the sound, spelling, and usage of -ed.
