Adjectives

Over the past couple of weeks, first grade students have been learning about adjectives.  We have shared several read alouds , viewed a BrainPOP Jr. video, and listened to the School House Rock’s Unpack Your Adjectives song.  We have learned adjectives are words that describe nouns. They make our writing more interesting and help the reader to paint a more clear picture in his or her mind.  We have discovered adjectives can be both numbers and colors and can occur in different parts of sentences.

Students have and will continue to participate in activities and centers focused on identifying and generating adjectives.  These activities include identifying adjectives in books in our reading folders, generating adjectives to describe animals and habitats, and a variety of adjective related games (memory matching opposites, sorting parts of speech, adjective go fish, etc.).
