Centers on the Patio

This afternoon, we took advantage of the beautiful weather and had centers on the patio.  Students worked in pairs to read about our next animal classification, birds.  They completed comprehension activities by matching key vocabulary terms (hover, migrate, soar, flightless, wingspan, communicate, and nectar) to their definition. They wrote about how birds look, what they eat, why they migrate, and how they communicate.  They drew pictures of birds they found interesting.

In addition to learning about birds, students are learning about our next habitat, the grasslands or savanna.  Students have discovered grasslands are found on every continent except Antarctica.  They have found grasslands encompass wide open spaces, have fertile soil, and have seasonal drought.

Learning about this new animal classification and habitat, students are continuing to build their animal and habitat books.  We look forward to sharing our completed books at our end of year celebration.
