Author Study – Nancy Carlson

Today, we began our first author study of the year.  Students enjoyed the shared read aloud First Grade, Here I Come! by Nancy Carlson.  As we read the story, we practiced text to self connections by sharing similarities between ourselves and each of the characters.  Further emphasizing the story element of character, students identified statements that were true for each.  Then, they selected a favorite character and created an illustration.  We will continue to share Carlson’s books throughout the next two weeks, enjoying her colorful illustrations and positive messages.
