I Don’t Like to Read

Continuing to share texts by our current author, Nancy Carlson, today we read aloud I Don’t Like to Read.  In the book, Henry likes almost everything about first grade, except reading.  Henry’s teacher, and the audience, quickly find out it’s not that Henry doesn’t like to read, rather he’s having a hard time learning how to read.  Eventually, with extra practice at school and at home, Henry learns to read.  Sharing this book as a class prompted discussion as to how first graders at The Summit are all learning to read, and how we are each learning at our own pace.  We know that it will take hard work and perseverance, at school and at home, but we are excited to continue to grow as readers.
