Energy – Solar Ovens

Today, we read aloud Energy Makes Things Happen.  Through the book we discovered different kinds of energy.  We learned how energy can make things hot, bright, or loud, how energy can make things move, and how energy can be used to do work.  We discussed how most of our energy comes from the sun, from the food we eat to the energy found in fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and oil).  Harnessing the sun’s energy, first graders built solar ovens to cook a special snack, s’mores.
