Saving and Spending

Completing our unit on economics, first grade students have learned about saving and spending.  Reading aloud Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday prompted much discussion about how to earn money, how to spend money wisely, and how to save money.  We have learned, when purchasing an item, it is a good idea to compare prices or wait for a sale.  First grade students discussed budgets as plans for spending and saving money.  We have gained an understanding of how people should get the things they need first, and then might have enough left over to get what they want.  Today, in a final project, students created advertisements for an item they might want.  Advertisements will be on display in the classroom.
