ABC Order

Summit first graders are developing alphabetizing skills.  First, students learned the letter sequence and how to put letters in alphabetical order.  Then, they learned and practiced putting words beginning with different letters in abc order.   Finally, they are now learning what to do if the words start with the same letter or letters.  Students are practicing looking to the next letter in the word to determine the order. Later this week, students will be asked to write their spelling words in abc order.  Our skills will be put to the test as nearly all of the words start with the same first two letters.  We will continue to practice alphabetizing at school through spelling and word work centers.
