The Water Cycle

Learning about the water cycle, first grade students are understanding the the process of how water moves and changes.  Students are discussing key steps and terms of the process including precipitation, run off, accumulation, evaporation, transpiration, water vapor, and condensation.  They have enjoyed viewing brief videos, sharing read alouds such as A Drop Around the World, creating make and take books, and diagraming the water cycle.  Conducting a related experiments, we created our own water cycle in a bag.  Students will make and record observations for the remainder of the week.  Tomorrow, they can look forward to yet another experiment as we use sand, dirt and water to  answer the question, “Where do you think water for rain comes from?”  Next up, we will further explore states of matter.
