LAD Fair

Each spring, Summit first graders participate in the Language Arts Department (LAD) Fair, a regional writing contest. In doing so, students are creating and selecting pieces of writing fitting specific categories outlined by the LAD Department. In addition to submitting small group and class anthologies, we will strive to submit at least one piece of writing from each individual student.   At the contest, writing samples are read and then judged by other area teachers. Students are welcome to work on LAD Fair pieces at home and over spring break.  For those interested, a list of category description can be found below. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like additional guidance on categories to select if your child is choosing to work at home.  We are limited in the number of entries allowed per category.
In addition to participating in the writing contest, Summit first graders will have the opportunity to participate in the LAD Spelling Bee. To prepare, we will host an informal class spelling on Thursday, March 23rd.  Participation in our class spelling bee is optional.  Information about the spelling bee and word lists can be found at the links below.
