Verbs

First grade students have a learned a verb is a word that describes an action and tells what happens in a sentence.  Last week, students were introduced to action verbs as they shared in a read aloud of If You Were a Verb by Michale Dahl.  Students then became verb detectives, looking around the classroom to identify actions students or teachers were doing.  Connecting their learning to our current science topic, students generated action verbs for various animals.  This week, we will expanded our understanding of verbs through a variety of videos, songs, games, and writing activities.  Students will explore subject verb agreement, examine verb tenses (regular and irregular), and learn about verb endings (-ed, -ing, -s).
