We had a fantastic last full day of school. After writing briefly in our journals, completing a final entry of the school year, Mr. Powers led us in a rocket STEM project. Each student designed and attached fins to fly their rockets. Using an air compressor, we counted down and launched each of our rockets. Next, students went to their final music class of the year, participating in Just Dance. Back in the classroom, we wrote letters to Abigail, our high school helper, and compiled them to create a graduation gift for her. We were so fortunate to have her assistance this school year!
This afternoon, we loaded the bus with 3rd grade to head to the Nature Center. While there, students participated in a Slithery Snakes class. We added to our knowledge of Missouri snakes discussing snake anatomy and identification (venomous and nonvenomous). We got to see a snake skin, snake vertebrae, and a live speckled king snake. After the presentation, students hit the trails to observe a variety of wildlife including a black rat snake and a northern water snake.
When we returned, 1st graders joined second graders for a final day of Spanish where they enjoyed chips and salsa. We packed up our belongings, had a group hug, and said good-bye to our first grade classroom. We’re looking forward to a fun-filled day together at the park tomorrow.
