What are polygons? First graders know they are 2-dimensional figures. They have at least three sides, straight lines, and form a closed shape. To help us understand, we listened to and viewed a brief video/song about polygons. Then, students completed a book about polygons, naming examples and identifying the number of sides and angles of each. Using shape templates and straight edges, students have created individual polygon posters. Today, we’ll use geoboards, popsicle sticks, and other manipulatives to construct polygons.
