Digraph qu

This week we have introduced digraph qu.  Students enjoyed listening to The Wedding of Q and U, a fictional story about the letter pairing and their spelling sequence.  After the story, students once again brainstormed a list of qu words and selected their weekly spelling list.  Thus far, first grade students have focused on digraphs ch, sh, th, and wh.  After completing qu this week, students will learn ph.  While we will periodically review beginning blends and digraphs, the majority of second trimester will be spent learning about ending blends and then vowel pairs.
