First day of school! First day of school! I hope everyone was as excited as Nemo and I were when we woke up this morning! With everyone’s teamwork, we made it through multiple new experiences: car line, lunch procedures, recess in the backyard, classroom procedures.
When asking your child what they learned today, you may receive the generic “nothing” answer because to the kids, it probably did seem like we learned nothing! However, our day was spent exploring and learning so many wonderful things about first grade. Our morning was spent learning how we will begin each day. This is SUCH an important thing to learn because it sets the tone for our entire day. Throughout the rest of the day, we learned about procedures, expectations, and how we do things in first grade. Some examples include walking in the hall, freezing when the chime rings, listening when the teacher is talking, and keeping our bodies safe around others.
Later in the morning, some of the centers we do during Instructional Workshop time were introduced. You can find pictures of where your child chose to go in the gallery below. In math, we used our hands and explored with our math tools. Some of these materials included rubber band boards, pattern blocks, magnet tiles, and snap cubes. With both the reading and math centers, we talked first about how we use the materials and what the expectations were.
We had a great first day in first grade and are hopefully all looking forward to the second! I know I am 🙂
