We had SUCH a great time at the Springfield Watershed today! We are so thankful that the weather cooperated and that we were able to enjoy all of our outdoor activities. We started off the trip by talking about the importance of water for us and animals. We completed fish prints of some of the different fish that are found in the bodies of water near Springfield!
After completing fish prints, we made our way down to the creek, where the students were given the opportunity to explore the environment and the living things found in it! Using the water trap nets, we were able to catch all sorts of critters! We all enjoyed looking at or holding the crawdads. We also practiced the “crawdad shuffle” which was a silly dance move we did with our feet to stir up and the water and bring the crawdads out of hiding. Students had a great time exploring in the creek!
We concluded our field trip with a nature hike through the park. First graders collected interesting pebbles, sticks, leaves, flowers and anything else they desired and attached them to their Journey Sticks. We had a great time exploring and learning about the different trees, leaves, and plants found in woods around us.
