Vowel Teams

Happy Monday!  We had a great 2 days back last week and am looking forward to all of the learning we will be doing throughout January!  To kick off the new year, first graders were introduced to vowel teams in text to help with reading and decoding!  Vowel teams will also be looked at later in the year as one of our spelling patterns, but it is great for students to be noticing these patterns and learning the rules while reading.  With vowel teams, first graders learned a fun rhyme to help remember the rule.  “When 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking.”  After watching a fun video with this song and examples of vowel teams in words, the students were inspired and asked if we could make our own video!  I will warn you that I am not known for my movie making or editing skills, but the kids had fun with this project and spent the rest of the day singing the rhyme!  I hope you enjoy the video!!
