Fire Safety

The Summit was lucky to have some helpful firefighters on campus today to teach us about fire safety! First graders learned about what to do if your smoke alarm goes off and how to avoid hazards in your home that might cause a fire. We practiced the phrase “Get out, stay out!” to remind students to never return to a building on fire once they are safely outside. We also thought about if each family knew their “family meeting spot” – a place where the whole family meets up after they get out of a fire safely.

After the presentation, our class read the book Miss Mingo and the Fire Drill by Jamie Harper and talked more about being safe in case of a fire. Ask your student what they learned about fire safety today and don’t forget to designate a family meeting spot! Thanks Springfield Fire Station No. 9!
